ii. I am ready now, my sister; You may read the letters o'er; I will listen to the words of him Whom I shall see no more.
12. And ere you have finished, Should I calmly fall asleep, Fall asleep in death and wake not, Dearest sister, do not weep. |

"The Little Rosewood Casket." Recorded by Mrs. Henry from the singĀing of Mrs. William Franklin, Crossnore, Avery County, North Carolina, July 16, 1930.
1. In that little rosewood casket That is resting on my stand Is a package of old letters Written by a cherished hand.
2. Will you get them now, dear sister ? Will you read them o'er to me ? For oft times I've tried to read them But for tears I could not see.
3. Read these precious lines so slowly That I may miss not even one,
For the cherished hand that wrote them, His last work for me is done.
4. Tell him that I never blamed him; Not an unkind word was spoke. Tell him, sister, tell, oh, tell him That my heart was doubdess broke.
5. Tell him that I never blamed him Though he's proved to me untrue. Tell him that I'll never forget him Till I bid this world adieu. |
